Ex-Liverpool player inspires his new team to victory against San
Jose Earthquakes.
Making his full debut, Gerrard scored a
goal and set up another as Galaxy fought back from a 2-0 deficit to win 5-2. While
Robbie Keane was the real hero for Galaxy, scoring a hat-trick, Gerrard stole
the headlines for his captivating performance.
"I felt like a kid out there
again. I don't want to come off," Gerrard said afterwards.
"It
was very pleasing to get off the mark. I was quite disappointed in the previous
two games [an International Champions Cup friendly and a US Open Cup match] not
to get goals - I had two good chances.
Gerrard, on the other hand, has already
played three matches and has become an immediate hero after his inspiring
display against San Jose Earthquakes in the California Clasico on Saturday
evening.
Robbie and Stevie
looked like they'd played together before,” head coach Bruce Arena noted.
“Obviously, two very good players, and this is why we have Steven Gerrard here.
We think he's a player that's going to make our team better.”
