Emmanuel
Arnold Okwi, former Simba striker has expressed his delight having joined the
Danish top flight outfit, Sonderjyske Fodbold, saying the move is a bridge to
brighter future.
“I would like to thank my new coach, Jakob Michelsen
who having watched me play in over 20 matches has brought me to be part of the
success I foresee here,” Okwi said.
“I
am profusely grateful to the great Simba SC and Uganda Cranes fans that have
always supported and continue to motivate me to perform better,” he added.
“I am truly humbled by the overwhelming kind
words you have all sent me through various platforms. I may not be able to
respond to you all but I want you to know that I feel your love,” he added. I
believe that in order to progress in life, one ought to leave one’s comfort
zone.
It
is based on this that I know it is now time for me to take up the next
challenge – this time round in Europe. “I am really excited to be here and
confident that I will develop at this club.
I
look forward to hitting the ground running, acclimatizing and then doing the
best for my team.” Okwi has previously played at SC Villa in Uganda, Yanga and
Simba in the Mainland Premier League and in the Tunisian league for Etoile du
Sahel.
Speaking
when unveiling the Ugandan ace, Sonderjyske’s director of sports Hans Jorgen
Haysen said they watched him live around 20 times.

“He
has spectacular dribbling skills and is fast on the ball. He is also
technically good,” Haysen said. For Sonderjyske this is a big investment and it
is clear that we hope for his age and potential, we’ll eventually sell him at a
profit.”
Okwi’s
abilities have never been doubted but that doesn’t mean that the club will push
for immediate results. “We know that for Africans, it is hard to get used to
European football, to the culture and to the temperatures.
We
will give him time, but I would want to emphasise that we already expect something
from him in the coming season. It is one of the biggest names in the East
African football and he is a big name in the Super League,” Haysen said.
