Patrick Ekeng, midfielder collapsed on the pitch for Dinamo Bucharest against
Viitorul Constanta in the Romanian top flight.
Ekeng,
had played for just seven minutes as a substitute in the live televised match
and apparently made no physical contact with anyone. Ekeng fell to the floor in
the 70th minute of a televised Romanian.
He
was pronounced dead in hospital two hours later.

He was taken to hospital in the Romanian capital
and team doctor Liviu Paltinean said: "Resuscitation attempts were made
for an hour and half without success."
Club executive director
Ionel Danciulescu expressed his shock and recalled that of another club player,
Catalin Hildan, who died playing a friendly in October 2000.

He said: "I can't
believe it. It's a nightmare. For me, for the team and for all Dinamo
supporters. It's too much.
"It's as if we are cursed."
The
Cameroonian FA confirmed the news on Twitter, while Ekeng's former
club Cordoba tweeted: "We have no
words to express our sadness at the loss."
