The England International and former Sunderland player Adam Johnson,
28, was found guilty of intimately touching a 15-year-old girl last week having
previously admitted kissing her and grooming her.
Judge Jonathan Rose told the
former Sunderland player he was being granted bail to “say goodbye” to his
13-month-old daughter Ayla ahead of sentencing later this month. The England international faces up to 10 years in prison and will
be paid to take a sex offender’s course behind bars.
The 28-year-old, who earned
£60,000 a week with Sunderland, will receive up to £15 a week while completing
the rehab programme.
A Prison Service spokesman said:
“Prisoners who take part in work, education, or offending behaviour programmes
receive a minimal amount but only if they participate in purposeful activity.”
Johnson faces up to 10 years when
sentenced later this month.
Last Wednesday jurors at Bradford crown court took under 10 hours to convict Johnson of sexually touching a 15 year old girl. The England star was cleared on
another charge of sexual activity with the girl but admitted grooming, kissing
and touching her.
