Premier
League side Liverpool are hoping to appoint Jürgen Klopp as the club's new head
coach by Friday, according to reports in the British media.
The Merseyside club fired
Brendan Rodgers following a draw with rivals Everton on Sunday and reports
since then have tipped the former Borussia Dortmund head coach as the front-runner
to take over the job. Carlo Ancelotti, who like Klopp, is also currently out of
work, has been mentioned as another leading candidate.
Reports in the British media
on Tuesday suggested that talks between Liverpool and Klopp's representatives had
progressed well, with the five-time European champions winners looking to
appoint a new head coach before its next Premier League fixture, against
Tottenham Hotspur on October 17.
The 48-year-old Klopp, though,
has declined to comment on the speculation.
"There is nothing the say
about it. Neither yes nor no," he told the mass-circulation newspaper
"BILD."
Long before his departure from
Borussia Dortmund at the end of a difficult 2014-15 season, Klopp had made it
known that England was a country he would like to work in next. In an interview
with English television station "BT Sport" in almost a year ago Klopp
explained why the next logical step for him would be the Premier League.
