Manchester United 3-1 Barcelona
Rooney 8, Lingard 65, Januzaj 90, Rafinha 90
Manchester United continued their winning run in the US last night
with victory over Champions League winners Barcelona, ahead of their own return
to Europe's top table next season.
Skipper Wayne Rooney and substitutes Jesse Lingard and Adnan
Januzaj scored the goals that gave Louis van Gaal's side another win in the
States, following earlier wins over Club America and San Jose Earthquakes.
David De Gea and Ángel Di María featured in the
tale of two Manchester
Unitedplayers whose unclear futures were highlighted by this 3-1 win against
Barcelona. De Gea, who is a target for Real Madrid, donned the red livery for a
first time since being injured during a draw with Arsenal in the last season’s
penultimate game. Di María is due to join Louis van Gaal’s squad after this
match, yet beforehand senior executives refused to dismiss reports he is on the
brink of moving to Paris Saint-Germain.
It was Rooney's first goal for United since April
4, ending a barren run of eight games, going back to a 4-0 win over Aston Villa
at Old Trafford. Rooney had drawn a blank in United's first two games here in
the US, but finally got off the mark here with a long overdue goal.
