TANZANIA NATIONAL TEAM SQUAD FOR WORLD CUP QUALIFIER

Dar es Salaam: World Cup qualifier preliminary round first leg, Taifa Stars will host Malawi in the at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on October 9, with the return leg due four days later at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The winner of the Tanzania- Malawi tie will face Algeria the next round of the continental qualifiers. Meanwhile, South African club Free State Stars have asked the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) to allow winger Mrisho Ngassa to join the national team camp on October 4, so that he can feature in the Telkom Knockout Cup match against Bidvest Wits scheduled for October 3.

Taifa Stars assistant coach Hemed Moroko announced the squad to the media in Dar es Salaam yesterday in the absence of Mkwasa, who is attending family bereavement. Moroko said the team would assemble into their residential camp this Thursday to start their preparations for the World Cup qualifying campaign.

Ahead of the two-legged encounter, Mkwasa has opted to retain the same squad he picked for the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Nigeria played earlier this month, ending in a barren draw. 

Squad of Taifa Stars:

Goalkeepers: Ally Mustapha, Aishi Manula and Said Mohammed.

Defenders: Nadir Haroub, Kelvin Yondani, Mohammed Hussein, Hassan Isihaka, Juma Abdul, Shomary Kapombe and Mwinyi Haji.

Midfielders: Himid Mao, Said Ndemla, Salum Telela, Frank Domayo, Mudathir Yahya, Simon Msuva and Deus Kaseke.

Strikers: Rashid Mandawa, John Bocco, Mrisho Ngassa, Mbwana Samatta, Thomas Ulimwengu and Farid Mussa.
